Chanticleer Finalist Claymore Finalist

Navy Lieutenant Jeff Coburn returns home to pick up the pieces after his uncle's apparent suicide. Jeff loved his uncle who shared his affection for music and puzzles, but it was hard to stay close with the man who'd grown increasingly reclusive as the demons from the Vietnam POW camp ravaged his life.

Then Jeff discovers a letter revealing his uncle received a dishonorable discharge. He's shocked—not only at the revelation, but because a POW being discharged other than honorably strikes him as a travesty. As Jeff investigates, he becomes skeptical his uncle committed suicide.

Can a Book Have a Soundtrack?

TJ STECKER

Naval Flight Officer. Attorney. Crime Fiction Author.

Former P-3 Orion Naval Flight Officer. First amputee to earn Naval Aviation Wings. Now writing about damaged but not broken characters navigating systems designed to break them.

I became a Naval Flight Officer on the P-3C Orion after losing my leg in a boating accident, becoming the first amputee to earn Naval Aviation Wings. As a flight officer—not a pilot, there's a difference—I flew anti-submarine warfare missions all over the world, with deployments taking me from Hawaii to Europe and Africa.

At the Pentagon, I earned my law degree at night from Catholic University while working days. After retiring from active duty, I clerked for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee before returning to the Navy as a procurement attorney.

My varied careers—minor league baseball, naval aviation, government law—informs everything I write. These experiences give me the authenticity to write about military conspiracies, institutional corruption, and characters navigating systems designed to break them.

I'm not a published author giving advice from the mountaintop. I'm in the trenches with you, learning as I go, sharing what works and what doesn't on the road to traditional publication.
